Casting “Heat.” A short film.

During a summer heat wave, a young woman struggles to stay safe when an attacker is loose in her urban neighborhood. But can she be cautious without slipping into paranoia?

This is a short, student film.

Rehearsal and Production Dates

Filming takes place during the first week of June 2016. Locations are in Denver, Colorado. I’m more likely to cast local Colorado actors than out-of-towners. (Sorry!)

Compensation Details

Pays $100 per day during shooting. Most actors will only be required to film for a single day, though there will be some rehearsal times before shooting.

Casting Roles

Lucy (Lead): Female, 18–28, Any Ethnicity

Lucy has led a sheltered life—she’s shy, young, and fragile. Now that she’s on her own, she feels overwhelmed with life in the city. A good girl.

 

Sarah (Supporting): Female, 18–30, Any Ethnicity

Sarah is Lucy’s older, more worldly roommate who treats Lucy as a little sister. Confident and full of unsolicited advice, but dismissive of others’ needs in favor of her own (sometimes silly) desires.

 

Radian (Supporting): Male, 23–33, Any Ethnicity

Radian is a hipster artist having a show of his work. Charming, friendly, attractive. He goes out of his way to make people comfortable, but is more interested in attention than relationships.

 

Clerk (Supporting): Male, 40–60, Any Ethnicity

The Clerk sells Lucy a canister of pepper spray. He says all women should empower themselves, while taking a slightly condescending tone in teaching them to do so.

 

Construction Worker (Supporting): Male, 30–60, Any Ethnicity

The Construction Worker works on the air conditioning system in Lucy and Sarah’s apartment. He makes himself at home on the job, and seems to delight in making Lucy uncomfortable.

 

Police Officer (Supporting): Male, 40–60, Any Ethnicity

The Police Officer takes Lucy’s statement after a stranger tries to force his way into Lucy’s apartment.
